The Mystery of Benguet
Benguet [beŋˈɡet], as described in Wikipedia, is a landlocked province of the Philippines located in the southern tip of the Cordillera Administrative Region in the island of Luzon. It's capital is La Trinidad, although most of the time it is Baguio City(The Summer Capital of Philippines) that comes to my mind whenever Benguet is being mentioned.
More than the strawberries and fresh vegetables, what really made me fell in love with Benguet is the cold weather, high mountains, pine trees and it's rich culture. It is a great place to unwind, hang out with families and friends. It is a romantic place that makes me fall in love again and again.
The province is popular because of its great weather, scenery and colorful annual festivals like the Panagbenga of Baguio City and the Strawberry Festival of La Trinidad. It has become more popular when Sitio Pungayan in Tuba Benguet (or more popularly known as Sitio La Presa) was chosen to be the setting of the ongoing romantic-comedy teleserye, Forevermore.
Here's a map to Sitio Pungayan Km 9, Mt. Kabuyao Tuba, Benget, if you are coming from Session rd, Leonard rd then head to Marcos highway then enter the way to Sto. Tomas Road. According to our driver, the road that leads to the sitio is higher than Kennon Rd. There are times that there is zero visibility due to the thick fog especially in the afternoon and at night. I was amazed to see the clouds pretty close on our way up!
On our way down.
Overlooking Baguio City |
Our driver, Kuya Noel, bought 3 kilos of large potatoes, good for making French fries, for 45php only!
The house of Agnes - Forevermore |
This place is indeed a gem hidden in Benguet. We hired a taxi cab for 800php, from our place which was near Baguio City town proper to Sitio Pungayan(a.k.a Sitio La Presa),for 45 minutes approximately, and back.
This is just the start of our Benguet Adventure! We'll keep you updated with our next! :D
